Issue #24: HaveYouHeard is now generally available! šŸš€

A new chapter begins

This week marks the beginning of a new chapter! šŸ”„

Now, I need to hunt for customers. Having customers will help me define the next steps according to what will best help them succeed. šŸ¤

So this week has been mostly around revamping the landing page and preparing the setup on Stripe.

Table of Contents

A new landing page

This took the majority of the time. I think that the first impression makes the difference, so I wanted to really make it right and Iā€™m quite satisfied about the final outcome.

It looks polished, and professional, and has all sections required for a well-structured landing page:

A strong headline and subheadline with a clear call to action

A quick overview showing how easy it is to get started

An explanation of why marketing on Reddit is worth it

An overview of all the features available

A clear pricing section with a comparison of the different plans

A FAQ section

Hopefully, this landing would help potential customers better understand how HaveYouHeard can help them promote their products on Reddit and why it is worth it.

What is still missing is a great social validation section, but Iā€™m not there yet.

To be honest, I donā€™t know exactly when these should be ready, but I took some time to have a look at how to prepare them and it didnā€™t take too much time.

I relied on a SaaS called Termageddon. Itā€™s very easy to use and with 12$/month you get all the policies that you need for your own product: Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, EULA, Cookie Policy and Consent Tool.

Itā€™s just a bit annoying to answer all the questions required to generate those, and some of them seem obscure, but luckily for every question, thereā€™s a helpful paragraph explaining how to fill it according to different scenarios.

Some of the questions for the Privacy Policy

Some people on X suggest just copying the policies of a competitor and replace the the company name, but there are so many questions some of which are quite specific that itā€™s very likely that whatever you copy wonā€™t perfectly fit your case.

However, I understand where this comes from. That is investing in something without even having a single paying customer yet, so some see it as ā€œoverengineeringā€. Since it didnā€™t really take that long and the cost is little I just went for it.

Promotion next steps

Content generation

Blog post

Promoting a product on Reddit can be very effective, especially considering that nowadays Google shows a lot of results that are actually Reddit threads.

However, Reddit is quite a unique platform with its own rules, and not knowing those rules can lead to you having your account banned.

The customers must be aware of this, so Iā€™m going to write a blog post around this topic. These blog posts will have different purposes:

  • increase SEO value of the main domain,

  • increase authority of the product in the eyes of the customers,

  • can be used as part of an automatic welcome email for new signups.

Overall it would be a great investment. āœØ

Case study

One thing I realized when using HaveYouHeard for HaveYouHeard itself is that trying to promote a marketing SaaS is not that easy for now. The reason is that most of the posts being matched are actually posts of other people promoting tools to promote on Reddit. šŸ˜‚

Iā€™ll try to focus on using it for NextCommit then (I need to first fix a but in there that is blocking the discovery of new job positionsā€¦). This would be useful as a case study that could be put in the landing as well.

Video

A month ago I spent quite some time making a video teaser of HYH. It should be completely revamped, but Iā€™m not really sure how much ROI would it have. I need to think about it because this is a non-trivial time investment and probably it doesnā€™t worth the effort especially considering that Iā€™ll learn a lot of new things in the next weeks and the product will also change accordingly.

Reddit

This should be obvious. šŸ¤£

In the same way, I announced the beta a few weeks ago, Iā€™ll do the same by announcing that itā€™s generally available.

In general, Iā€™d like to be more consistent on Reddit on those channels that allow promotion by also posting about feature updates. Itā€™s a bit annoying because there are many subs and they have different optimal posting times to maximize visibility so it takes some manual work.

But this could be a great feature to add to HYH or even as a free tool to be used as a lead magnet.

ProductHunt launch

I see a lot of recent discussions, especially in the indie community around the fact that launching on PH is not really worth it because they have a ā€œshadyā€ way of featuring products and that they discriminate against indie projects.

However, Iā€™ll do it anyway:

  1. it doesnā€™t take much time,

  2. itā€™s still a useful backlink,

  3. Less-than-expected visibility is still better than zero visibility.

Overall it seems like a net positive initiative.

Similarly to ProductHunt, there are now tons of sites for launching a product. Iā€™ll give them a try since again overall it should not do any harm.

Outreach

I just bought a subscription to LinkedIn Sales Navigator. šŸ’ø

Iā€™ll start outreaching there and Iā€™ll do it seriously. I should aim for a goal like reaching out to X number of leads every day. I donā€™t know what that X could be, but next week I must really focus on promoting HaveYouHeard so I guess I can even spend 4 hours/day just doing outreach.

This reminds me a lot of all the time I was spending in Athenian on LinkedIn when looking for talents to hire. šŸ˜…

For now, I just set up a few filters and it says 66k+ results. Even converting 0.5% of them at the lowest pricing tier would be 330 users at 29E/month which is 9.5kE/month which would be a great starting point! šŸ¤©

For now, I wonā€™t rely on cold emailing, and I hope that I wonā€™t need it. TBH whenever I read blog posts about cold emailing, enrichments, data providers, etc. it all feels so overwhelming.

Conclusion

Iā€™m feeling a mix of emotions. On one side the excitement of reaching a stage where I confidently offer a product that solves a problem end-to-end, on the other side afraid that nobody will give a shit about it. šŸ¤£

Maybe itā€™s just some impostor syndrome poping out now that Iā€™m on the edge of really scaling up the game on putting HYH in front of the people.

Time to push harder! šŸ’Ŗ

I hope you enjoyed this update!
